Diogenes   (Diet, Obesity and Genes)
The DIOGENES project sought new insights and routes to prevent the obesity problem from a dietary perspective.   The primary focus was to investigate dietary macronutrient components that would facilitate the prevention of weight gain and re-gain and also to study specifically the role of the glycaemic index (GI) of carbohydrate and of a high dietary protein content which enhances satiety.   The interactions between the dietary components and the genetic and behavioural factors would also be examined.

NetUnion contributed a multi-lingual Questionnaire Delivery Platform (QDP) to facilitate the data collection of clinical data.  This platform served as the foundation for the development of the Obesity Risk & Behavioural Advice Screening Tool (ORBAST), which assesses individual risks by considering genetic, behavioural, and nutritional factors.

This project was funded under Food Quality and Safety: Thematic priority 5 under the Focusing and Integrating Community Research programme 2002-2006.  (FP6-513946)
